AC Schnitzer decks out the BMW 5 Series GT

The Schnitzer boys have waved wands over the BMW 530d GT, giving it a little more power and a lot more cosmetics. Under the hood is a modest power bump from 245 horsepower to 286, but torque numbers have been omitted so we're supposing there's no change there. If that is indeed the case, color us a wee bit surprised that no more twist was extracted from the torque-tastic oil-burner from Bavaria. The front end gets a less sculpted treatment while, if the swirls ...

Frankfurt 2009: 2010 BMW 5 Series GT is almost schön in person 6 months ago on Autoblog

The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo took a whirl on the plinth and we have to admit it doesn't look the least bit absurd standing in person. We completely forgot to be offended at the fact we're being handed this instead of the perfectly fantastic 5 Series Sport Wagon. At least, until we played ...

The 2010 BMW 5 Series is due to hit the market early next year and these latest spy shots are a clear, if predictable, indication of what styling changes are on their way. The front fascia adopts the upright nose, elongated twin-kidney grille and contoured headlamps (Dame Edna be gone!) ...

Spy Shots: BMW 5-Series GT 10 months ago on Autoblog

A couple of near production-ready 5-Series GTs have been caught on BMW's home turf, and to our eyes they don't hurt the car, but they don't make a case for it either. The last time we were in this situation -- hoping a car's production version would be a huge improvement over it's pre-production ...

Spy Shots: BMW 5-Series Touring 1 year ago on Autoblog

Who needs a 5-Series PAS when you've got one of these? The next BMW 5-Series Touring is out testing, and despite the fact that it looks as long as a football field and it's buried under cladding, it doesn't look awkward or ungainly – something that cannot exactly be said for the coming ...

Review: 2008 BMW M5 1 year ago on Autoblog

BMW's M5 is understated enough to fly under the radar of the general public, but those in the know, familiar with its capabilities and the legacy it carries, grow silent with reverence if you pull up to them at the gas pump. Who can resist a vehicle that can stop conversations mid-sentence, and ...

Rendered Speculation: Lexus GS-F 2 years ago on Autoblog

F, now there's a letter that says high performance, don't it? Lexus must have figured that all the good ones were taken, so why not just go with the first letter of FAST. No doubt, the GS-F will be a rocket. It better be, if it wants to try kicking sand in the face of the M5. The artist's rendering ...

BMW intros new technology with 2008 5 series door panel 2 years ago on Autoblog

It isn't just the outside of the 5-series that's been breathed upon for '08. Inside, new ground was broken by BMW and OEM Johnson Controls to create two color door panels using a single sheet of material. Typically, door panels that have multiple colors have multiple pieces. That adds weight and ...

Lutz lets a bit of Edmunds survey slip, GM takes 13 first place picks 2 years ago on Autoblog

Sometimes news is just too good to keep to yourself. Just ask GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz. With his company supposedly claiming 13 spots on Edmund's Consumers' Most Wanted list, Lutz just had to brag a bit on the corporate blog before the winners were made public. And he should brag. Most other car ...

Regenerative braking coming to BMW 3-series in October 2 years ago on Autoblog

BMW to start building sportvans 3 years ago on Autoblog

Could this portend the impending doom of the SUV as family car? BMW will be adding sportvans to their lineup beginning with the F5 in 2009. The basis for the F5 will be provided by the X5. Following on the heels of the F5 will be a van based on the 3-series called, quite naturally, the F3. ...

It could be that we all know BMWs are just a hoot to drive, with laser-sharp steering ...

BMW 5-series gets regenerative braking, but not why you think 3 years ago on Autoblog

It would seem that BMW reads Autoblog. How else would you explain them, at least partially, answering our question about how a conventional automobile would utilize some of the hybrid demon-tweaks? For the first time ever, BMW has equipped a non-hybrid car with a regenerative braking system. ...
